Strength Crit Build: Stagger, Smash and One-Shot Crits
The Strength-crit build for Rogue Blight: how it plays, which weapons and blessings to grab, stat priorities, and why it's the best first serious build.
The strength-crit build is what a lot of Rogue Blight runs quietly become: your first decent sword drops, Strength’s double bonus (crit damage and free defense) keeps paying, and by the second floor every staggered elite eats a triple crit. Multiple streamers reached the Wendigo and beyond on exactly this skeleton.
How it plays
- Hit the enemy’s poise, not just its HP. Heavy weapons carry large poise damage; enough hits stagger, and a stagger is a free crit window.
- Crit during the punish. STR raises Critical Damage (the equipment screen shows the exact numbers), so every stagger converts to burst.
- Buff, then unload. The Wooden Sword’s Berserk skill (+25% all damage) and similar self-buffs turn your punish window into a kill window.
Stat priority
| Priority | Stat | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Strength | Crit damage + Bonus Defense; the whole build. |
| 2 | Dexterity | Cheap crit chance — with high crit damage, chance is the better multiplier once it’s your bottleneck. |
| 3 | Stamina (bonfire prayer) | Heavy swings eat stamina; more max stamina = more punish per opening. |
Weapon shopping list
- Wooden Sword — don’t sell it: Berserk stays useful all run.
- Iron Greatsword — the build’s natural endgame; huge poise damage, STR scaling.
- Flame Sword or Frost Sword — STR-scaling elemental variants; burn adds damage while you wait for staggers, freeze creates them.
- Any legendary gloves with aerial perks — jumping heavies are a safe opener against tall bosses.
Blessings that complete it
- Nomsa’s Fury — +10% damage per consecutive hit (to +60%): perfect on slow heavy strings that land all their hits.
- Crit-chance and crit-damage blessings offered at blessing nodes and shops — with STR’s high crit damage, chance lines outperform.
- Any damage-taken reduction or poise blessing: this build sometimes tanks a hit mid-swing; softening that trade is worth more than raw damage.
Common mistakes
- Diving into dual wield. Two greatswords lose 40% of each weapon’s damage and status buildup — this build wants one heavy weapon and a shield or torch.
- Ignoring DEX entirely. At 0% crit chance, all that crit damage does nothing. A few DEX lines from boots and gloves fix it.
- Standing still after a stagger. The punish window is shorter than it looks on big enemies; three hits then reset.
